In this poem, I explore the tension between two powerful ways of experiencing the divine—one rooted in tradition, the other grounded in the unity of spirit and self. It's a reflection of my own spiritual journey, navigating between these perspectives and ultimately discovering peace through oneness.
I hope this resonates with you on some level, whether you're questioning, seeking, or simply experiencing your own path. You can listen to the poem read by my husband, Matthew Nydokus, in the audio clip above. Let his voice carry you through the words as you immerse yourself in the rhythm and meaning behind "Between Two Gods.”
“Between Two Gods”
I journeyed long between two gods,
Not lost, but searching deep within,
The lines we cross, the choices drawn,
Pushed or pulled by forces unseen.
You see, I see,
God above, god within,
Not as is often believed,
But in unity, where spirit and self are one.
It’s oneness,
Spirit affirmed through living truth,
Love, boundless and shared,
An awareness of all that is,
The truth, the light.
In faith, I believed,
Not in dogma, but in understanding,
Each moment, a reason to be,
Self-worth, a sacred core,
Where acceptance makes all things possible,
Barriers fall, past wounds mended.
So I prayed to God,
Welcoming back the divine,
As tradition showed, as many did,
A God above, greater than me.
Yet in the seeking, shadows loomed,
Anxiety from distance and doubt,
Forgetting the closeness
Of the one who sees all.
Waiting, asking, pleading,
My faith felt hollow,
A structure crumbling,
Yet peace always within,
The oneness of divine felt deep.
Both truths held in balance,
But one path revealed,
I crossed the threshold,
And with God, I am free.
